Register Office is to close.
Wednesday, 13 January 2010
For many years now there has been a Register Office (for births, deaths and marriages) at the Town Council offices at Clark House. Although by appointment only, it has meant that people from Shipston and the surrounding villages haven’t had to travel to Stratford or even further afield to use the service.
The Town Council has received a letter terminating their lease from the end of March.
I challenged our local Conservative County Councillor about this at the Town Council meeting last night. He said that he was not aware of this happening! In case you didn’t know - this service is provided by the County Council.
If the office is to close, and not be replaced, this is yet another example of the Conservatives in Stratford and Warwick not caring about the needs of local people, following the closure of the Telegraph Street office.
Please let me know what you feel about this.
