Hundreds of houses proposed for Shipston under district master plan

Saturday, 27 February 2010

A NEW medical centre, food store, elderly people’s accommodation and 250 houses could be built in Shipston under the master plan for Stratford District’s development over the next 15 years.

These could be constructed on land between Saddlers Avenue and the Norgren site and on a field next to Old Butt Road and Campden Road.

They would be built under Stratford District Council’s Local Development Framework.

The council is statutorily obligated to produce this document, which will provide the basis for where homes are built, jobs are created and how services are improved.

It published the draft Core Strategy, the document’s first and most important part, last October.

The council has produced a further draft because the government could increase the number of new homes it wants built district-wide, during the period 2006-2026, from 5,600 to 7,500.

It is now consulting the public about this second draft.

People have until Thursday, April 8 to submit comments to the council.

The strategy includes development proposals for towns and larger villages, while outlining an approach to developing rural brown field sites and providing small-scale development in villages to meet the needs of local people and businesses.

It also includes proposed policies covering Infrastructure, transport, flood risk, renewable energy, heritage and other topics.

The strategy can be viewed on the council’s website - www.stratford.gov.uk - and is also available to view at council offices and public libraries.

Taking into account comments received during this consultation, the council will produce a formal version for submission to the government.

A public examination will then be held.

The council hopes to adopt the strategy by the end of 2011.

Coun George Atkinson, the council’s planning portfolio holder, said: “This document is an important stage in the process, since it is vital that the district council has as much information as possible when producing the plan that is submitted to the Secretary of State.”

People can submit comments to the council electronically, via a form provided on the website, or by requesting a paper form by telephoning 01789 260319.
