Walter Craft

Hi, I’m trying to find out whereabouts my grandfather, Walter Craft, and his family, including my mother, lived in New Street, Shipston between 1908 and 1911-ish. I recently visited the museum in Shipston, to no avail.

My mother’s birth certificate just says “Shipston-on-Stour”, and the 1911 census, which has my mother’s year of birth incorrect (1909 instead of 1908), just says “New Street”, with no house number given.

I’ve driven along New Street hundreds of times without knowing that’s where they lived. Walter Craft was a corn merchant who eventually settled in Chipping Norton and, in the 1930s, built the corn mill in Station Road, now demolished to make way for houses to be known as “Walter Craft Court”.

Any help would be much appreciated. – Paul Burbidge burbidgep@yahoo.co.uk

Deborah Cheadle nee Brain

I am tracing my Brain family tree from Stourton from the year 1817 when William Brain married Ann Lock… Their Son Henry born 1842 is my Gt Gt Granddad who married Elizabeth Harwood in 1878. Their Son William Edward Brain moved and married to Lillian Herriott in Aston in 1885. Where my Grandad was born George  Albert in 1912. unfortunately my Grandad George never talked or had any information about his parents. I am really interested in William Edward Brain, I wondered if there is anyway to find any information out about him and his family.. I now live in Uttoxeter Staffordshire, but the my family of Brains still live in Birmingham.

30 April 2015 – I have a William Edward Brain born 1888 and married Lillian Herriott 20 April 1908 in Aston, Warwick.
The marriage records have his Father as William Edward Brain and Lillian’s Father as Richard Nathaniel Herriott.
There is a matching family tree with a birth date of 17 April 1889 at 7 Court, Cromwell Street, Aston and death date of 18 July 4 Back 290 Lichfield Road Aston. There is a sister called Lillian Brain. Bryan – Admin

22 August 2017 – I’ve recently begun searching more for my Haddon family and found a connection with Richard Nathaniel Herriott b. 1893 in Gloucestershire. He appears to have married Hilda Leah Haddon in Aston, Birmingham in 1919, she was a cousin of mine. I understand there was at least one son named after his father who was born in 1935. Can you tell me please if this is a connection with your family history? – Gail Warwick gail.warwick@btinternet.com

Joanna Jarrett

My great grandmother’s family came from Shipston. I know nothing about them but hope to briefly visit the area in November. My great grandmother was called Joanna Jarrett daughter of Stephen and Susaanna Jarrett. In 1841 they lived in Sheep Street, Stephen being listed as a registrar. John Morgan

My grandfather was John Morgan, he was born in Shipston, he had a brother and a sister, neither of whom i have names for. I know they lived in Whichford at one point. John marries Mary Hughes in Shipston in 1940, they went on to run various pubs from there onwards. These are the only facts I have and am hopeful that you can add to these. Trisha Smith

I am looking for any information I can find on the Gibbs family from 1830 to 1850.  I found them in the 1841 census that said Whichford, but the postal was Shipston-on-Stour.  Do you have a geneological society? Also, it says on the census that my ancestor was a “Pauper”. It also does not show the husband in the census.  Could this be why she is a “Pauper”? Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Rachel

Hi all, am willing to pay a reasonable fee to someone who is willing to help me in the English side of my research.

My ancestor Charles COOPER is born in 1773 SHIPSTON ON STOUR to Thomas and Margaret. After his birth the record of the family goes cold. Charles COOPER later marries Alice DAVIES in WHITECHAPEL LONDON. I would love any help in tracing the family further back in England.

Perhaps someone can find for me the death records of Thomas and Margaret?
